Spend a week combining history,
exercise and great food and wine on
our new activity week.
We walk, canoe, cycle, and trek through
the beautiful Tarn countryside before
tackling the Via Feratta course along
the cliffs above St Antonin.
Each day sets a different challenge, but
you don't have to be superfit, just active.
Day 1 - We start the week with a 12km or 24km walk from the 13th Century Templer Commanderie in Vaour along old chemins to Penne where we get stunning views of the ruined cliff top chateau.
After a picnic lunch we return via Haute Serre, the highest point between the Pyrenees and the Massif Centrale Mountains.
Day 2 - We travel 11km by canoe down the magnificent Aveyron gorge where
towering cliffs line the river. We stop at
a riverside cafe and also at a local
ice-cold spring joining the river.
There are 3 weirs to negotiate and lots of rapids, as well as taking in the wildlife
such as kingfishers and otters.
Day 3 - Today it's a 3 hour pony trek through the Gresigne forest and vineyards surrounding Saint Beauzille.
There are magnificent views all around as we climb up towards Haute Serre again.
After the trek, we visit the Manoir D'Emmeille vineyard to taste the range of wines.
Day 4 - A rest day of sightseeing around
Albi, the main city of the region, where
St Cecile is the largest brick-built
cathedral in the world.
We also visit the museum dedicated to
Toulouse Lautrec, who was born close by.
Day 5 - On your bike for a 40km ride
around our local hilltop villages, visiting the arcaded square of Castelnau de
Montmiral and the narrow streets of Cordes sur Ciel, villages dating back to medeival times. There are panoramic
views in all directions as we travel the
quiet country roads.
Day 6 - We finish off by returning to St Antonin to try Via Feratta - following a created course along the cliffs of St Antonin attached to safety wires. There are bridges to traverse and a zip slide.
